Any how I hope this will be posted. Belle just called weather and Temp. was 103 degrees ! at 4/15 PM. Talk about hot and dry! Supposed to be a chance of rain next few days - we will see. Not much going on as you can imagine Hot as it is. I did go into trailer earlier to look at outlets with no power and noticed in small print "this outlet protected by GFI". So went into bath area and checked GFI plug there and it was tripped. Pushed button in to reset it and it worked! Called Dealer as there were no reset buttons on the two outlets in kitchen and found out they were wired in with one I had reset. Checked them and they were all on so that mystery solved. This may still leave you all mystified. I plan to mow in morning before it gets warm. It is supposed to be only 95 the next few days - real cold spell here. Sure hope we get some of that rain - only 9 inches behind.

Belle did call dentist about cavity she found and they said to come in at 9:15 so were fortunate to that taken care of. Not much more to write about. Mom has decided not to write today so that is all for now - Dad

Lufkin Homeplace August 14

Belle Here again:I have been trying to get Dad to blog, but he will not do it so I thought I would try. I ready enjoy reading the blogs and to know what everyone else is doing. It sounds as Christine is really busy getting her business going. Good luck.
We had a good weekend even if we didn't do anything. It has really been hot here. 100 today and they say 102 tomorrow. No rain in sight. We are suppose to go camping this weekend. Probably won't go till Thrusday. We always have a nice club house so the heat shouldn't be any problem. We will go out and eat together on Sat. after our meeting. I always bring food already prepared so I don't have to cook in the trailer when it is hot like this. I went to the doctor today about the brusing and bleeding on my legs and arms. I still think it is the medicine I am taking but he doesn't seem to think that is it. Anyway he said to taper off of it and see if it helps. If not, I will have to see my family doctor. I think it is odd that it got worse only after he increased my medince. The information they sent me with my medicine said that is one of the rare side affects, so we shell see. We enjoyed talking to both Mike and Jo last week, All so talked with Onva in Ok. and with Gladys in Oregon. Got the coupon from Jo today. Your yarn really looks nice. You are getting good at it.. I will see if Daddy wants to add to this, if not I will sign off. Mom

Not much to add. It has been a long hot summer - about 9 inches low on rain to date. We are not too busy in yard - can't work out for very long. Grass manages to keep growing enough to need mowing every week which is not too hard to do. Hope belle's getting of Neurontin helps and it is not too hard to get off it. Looking forward to getting out with trailer. Hope we can do more this fall when it cools down - we hope. All for now - Dad

Belle Here

Went to the doctor to get the results of the two tests I had taken a week or so ago. He said all was OK but that I had to have a stress test. Of course I did not pass the stress test and I have to have a Nuclear Stress Test made next Wed. It takes most of the day to complete. I have had 3 made through the years but he said the last one was four year ago and this was the only way he could tell what is going on. The shortness of breath is what worries me the most. So I guess I have to - here goes again.

This noon we are off to Cat Fish King to meet some fiends. We haven't been there in a long time so we should enjoy it. After that we are going to Wal Mart and do some shopping. I really hate to go there because it is so big and its hard to find everything you want without wandering all over the store. But some of their prices are good so we do go every two or three weeks.

Seems that everyone is well and doing their thing. Mrs Pruitt is home now and so is Onva. I will take to Onva on Sunday and will go see Mrs Pruitt sometime over the weekend.

The weather is still not great. We did have sun yesterday but its suppose rain today and tomorrow. It won't get as cold as it did last week but its not supposed to be nice either. The week went by so fast, as they all do. Every time I turn around its the weekend. We went to a wedding in Tyler yesterday. Some friends who use to camp with us, the wife (Joy) died in Sept. 2004. She was Mrs Lamb's only sister. A beautiful, classy lady, an artist. The husband got married to a lady from their church. It was a nice wedding but a little sad for us. We went with another couple and Mr and Mrs Lamb and two of their daughter's went together. So there was eight of us and we all had lunch at Luby's. I got my liver and onions which was great. That is the only place I get to eat some. The day was just about gone by the time we got home.
Onva just called and she will have a hip replacement and some other work done on her hip. She will have to be in a nursing home for six weeks and she can't be on her feet at all. Also talked to Anne La Haye in Mamou today. All the kids were there. It looks like Elmer will have to go to a long term care place. He is not able to walk and they don't know if he ever will be able to. He can't stay in the hospital much longer and he can't get medicaide either as he has too much. It's not going to be easy. I feel so sorry for them all.
We are supposed to have rain tomorrow. Sure hope we do as we need it bad. The grass fires ane still going on and will keep going till we get rain.
I have to go to the dentist tomorrow. The crown I had put in 4 months ago still hurts. Who knows. We are also supposed to go on a camp out at the end of the week. The weather is supposed to be OK then. I will keep you posted on that. Love Mom
Good to get a call from Mike while ago. Good to hear from them Anne is regaining her appetite and some weight. Enjoyed our trip to Tyler and the wedding - it was very nice. Weather was great for a drive. Not too much going on in Lufkin. We have had another dry week with lots of grass fires and it doesn't look too good for next week either. We did have a little cool front come through but now the wind is from the south and it will warm up quickly.

Earl noticed early in the week that he had lost his wedding ring. He doesn't know where or when. He did bag leaves and we are in the process of looking through the bags. We have done one and half and have and two more bags to go. It is warm today so we will go on the patio and look through the last two bags. If it doesn't show up; I don't think we will ever find it. After having this one for 60 years I think he needs a new one.

Elmer seems to be improving slowly and is still having PT every day. Mark is still in Louisiana and Anne came for the weekend. I don't know if Bryan came this week end or not.

We went out to eat twice last week and probably will go again this week. We have a good group of friends that we eat with so that gives us a chance to visit and still not have to cook at home.

Charlotte told me today that she is not sure that Mrs. Pruitt will make it to her birthday Feb. 17th. She is getting weaker every day. The only place that she can get her to go out is to eat when we go out.

I saw Cynthia Callway at church today and she said her computer is down. I will call Mayellen as soon as I finish this.

I have not started on any of the new patterns for book marks yet as I have no yarn. Some of them really look interesting. I guess this will be all for now. Maybe next time I can find more to write about. MOM

Hi All! Jo gave me a Family Tree Maker 2006 Program for Christams! I will be busy trying to get data in for sure. Wish my ring would show up - probably won't. Yes we did survive another year - hoping 2006 is a great year for all of the family. We went to an Anniversary party given by a couple in our Good Sam club, their 57 th. We had 6 couples - lots of good food. We had our Cholesterol levels made at free clinic on Thursday; mine came back 177 so I could enjoy. Mom's too high but she always eats smart.

Over the Christmas holidays we went to Louisiana on Friday to check on Belle's brother, Elmer. who had a stroke that paralized most of his left side about 3 weeks ago. He is in Rehab at hospital and doing a little better. Can move his left had and arm some, has feeling in left leg and a little movement at times. He has a long ways to go to recover. Four of his 5 children were there. Some we had not seen for years. Also got to see two of Belle's sister's family in Eunice we had not seen for a long time. Also visited one of her old school chums and a Cousin and all their family in Ville Platte. It was a very good trip and we were able to visit Elmer at hospital several times. We had a real nice drive back on Monday - very pretty warm day.

It is still very dry here in East Texas - It has been warm usually in 70's for past 3 weeks and windy at times. There have been a lot of fires - mostly North of here. Good thing there have not been too many fires in woods here which are full of down timber from Rita. A disaster in the making if fires should start in timber areas. No rain in sight here either.

Managed to sleep in until 9 this morning - very unusual. We did manage to stay up to see the Ball drop in New York and got home about midnight. Had a great breakfast and just finished up Sunday paper. I did manage to pick up the last of small branches and limbs that covered our yard today to add to Mount Rita by our curb. City said it may be a month before they get all yard trash picked up. Being without power for 5 plus days was no fun especially when heat index was over 100 for four days. We did manage to save all our food with use of Trailer fridge which will run on Propane. It would not hold all the fridge food but we used 3 ice chests and about 160 lbs of free FEMA ice - the first of which came late Tuesday just in nick of time.

After a couple of days I finally decided to take a neighbor up on offer to run electric cords so we could run our small fans which helped some in trying to sleep. Also needed to keep up trailer batteries to keep fridge controls working. Their were only 2 houses on our side of street without power - 3 across street. House across from us had 4 trees on their house which tripped the transformer and damaged their roof about 7 AM Saturday when they fell as Rita came to Lufkin still a Catagory 1 Hurricane. We had one huge Oak come down next to fence in our SE corner. It hit the back and side fence of houses behind us. Fortunately my Insurance said since it was a live tree their insurance had to pay for damage and removal. Wonder how I will ever get rid of huge root ball next to my shed however.

Belle had a hard time coping with heat could not sleep well until AC came back on Thursday afternoon late. I guess this was an adventure but once in a life time was enough for us. Just glad we were far enoungh from coast we were spared worse damage. All the towns SE of us toward Coast are still trying to get power and much destruction. We had over 75000 evacuees in shelters here. Every school, church, homes and other possible places were full of people. Now they are nearly all gone. There was no gas for people to move on or go back for a week. We had 800 in our church - it had to be decomtaminated as many were starting to get sick.

Fortunately we are well and had no major damage to The Lufkin Home Place

Rita Coming To Texas !!

Things my get crowded here at the Lufkin Homeplace. Evacuation from Houston will have Amy and Russ and Skyler - and Amy's parents headed our way. Russ said late Thursday but reports today said Houston should start evacuating early Thursday. Storm may hit near Freeport - Corpus Christ area they say now. But that will put Upper coast on Dirty East side - and no one knows where yet for sure.

If we don't lose power should be OK. Having no AC in house and Trailer will cramp our style. They say we will get rain and wind - tornados less possible in Lufkin. There were five rigs that went on Monday and stayed till Thursday morning at Mission Tejas State Park. There were only 5 full hookups and we were the only ones in the Park. We sat out and visited a lot. Lots of trees and shade and we put a couple of box fans out and we were comfortable. We walked everyday and all in all it was very relaxing. Had a couple of meals outside together. Thursday morning we left to meet the rest of the club at the Crocket Family Resort. Had a nice meeting club room. We had thirteen rigs for the weekend and two couples and Charlotte and Mrs Pruitt come on Saturday. We all went to eat out. No rain all the time we were camping. Now we are home playing catch up. Went to Mass on Sunday after we came home then went to visit a friend at the hospital. Today we went to church to count the collection. We do that at least once a month and sometime two. Droped by the grocery store on way home and did go see another sick friend at her house before coming home. Tomorrow we go have our teeth cleaned. I did loose a filling and broke another tooth over the weekend so will have to get appointment to have that taken car of. How exciting. !!! - Love You All - Mom

We did have a very good week enjoying our trailer and friends - a nice relaxing week. While gone had 1.5 inches of rain Tuesday PM. It is a good thing as it is very warm and plants needed water. Got a shower last night which helped too. Tonight thunder storms were all around us but only got a little drizzle so I was able to mow. Good thing as it was getting very long in front yard. Have been playing catch up as usual after being gone for a few days. Have got to edge and weed some and that should take care of yard. Better close for now. Hope Mom can get tooth she lost fixed with no great problems. A Maryland Bridge to hold a false tooth may do it. Our Love to All !! Got away early Thursday and made it there by 9:30 AM so it was still not too hot to get set up. Had a good site to move onto close to our friends. There were 5 rigs so had lots of company. Sat around a lot and visited and got cought up on everyones news. At noon Thursday we went to Chicken place in town and split a 10 pc bucket with another couple. The chicken was great and we took home 3 pieces - Belle and I only ate 2 pcs. there. They insisted we take leftovers home. Thursday afternoon the sky to the West towards Lufkin and Nacogdoches really got black and there were severe weather alerts for there. We got some rain and wind which just cooled it of nicely. Had to put up awnings but are very adept at that. In fact I was taking a nap and did not hear our friends pit ours up till Belle told me they had done it! Friday drove into Louisiana to the CatFish Galley and had their great Buffet - $4.95 I got Catfish and 4 veges Belle the Chicken Breast plus veges. We only ate most of mine took other meal home. Obviously our food stocks were growing. Got back about two in time for much needed naps then back to visiting. Saturday was our day off - just visted and caught up on our stockpile. Had a brief storm that dropped quite a bit of rain and wind - so Awning Down again. At six four of the couples left to go to a All You Can eat Catfish and Chicken place in Broadus. We passed and stayed home to finish Belle's meal from day before. We were definitely not up to a all you can eat place even if they had a nice Country Western Music performance later. This morning we got up early and went to 9 AM Mass in town in a very nice little church -about 40 there. Afterward several couples talked with us and invited to have coffee and rolls in hall - also gave us a large bag of little cherry tomatoes. It was nice to be in a small church atmosphere again. Several there were familiar with our church. We went back to camp and visited for while and left getting here at 11:30. Found yard litterd with limbs from storm Thusday and had 1.83 inches of rain in gauge. Our power had been off for 2.5 hours - hundreds were without power until Friday night. Our Toamatoe plants took a beating from wind. Hope we can stake them up again. We didn't do much as usual. No body around. Everyone gone out of town or visiting with family. We went shopping for a short while then came home and had a float. Dad went and got two Bacon 'n' Cheese Ciabatta for supper. How exciting. They were so big we couldn't eat half of them. Tomorrow we are going to breakfast with Heart Trackers at the Pine Crest. They have been after us to go for a meeting and sarve us breakfast and tell us about their place. It really is a beautiful place so I guess it will be nice to know all about it. Can't say much going on here it tis just way too hot - about 99 today. Did trim a few shrubs this morning for about an hour before we went to 60-5 Club luncheon at church. Had a good crowd and food too. Went to hospital to visit our friend Arvill and found him very weak and somewhat disorinted.Think he has given up - he said he did not think he would ever go home. Then went to his house to see his wife and try to find out what Dr. had told them. Unfortunately they have not talked with Dr. lately. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer and has had one treatment. His wife is better - she is still getting strength back from a fall almost month ago.

Have managed to do a little grocery shopping - almost too hot for that. We wish we could get away to someplace cool but everything too far off to travel in this heat. Have to keep watering things or we would loose them.

Our Good Sam club decided not to camp this month beacause of heat and several of our members took of for Eagle Nest, NM. It is cool there but too high for Mom. Only about 4 members were left to go to campout so called it off.

Better close for now. Enjoyed your long Blog Sally and picture of house Jo with sheathing on. Keep in touch. One I thought was OK yesterday did not show up. Just came back from lunch at Catfish King and it was very good. Enough for snack tonight. Also went to Randell's for groceries and quick stop at Big Lots.

Jo: when I try to go to Michelle's Moments from Homeplace nothing happens. Thought I had tried that Link before too - no address shows in bottom of screen. No problem as I have it in my Favorites too.

Sure wish it would rain - that might cool us off some. Quite a few Thunder Heads around but notging happening except heat. Hope you have a great trip home Sally. I came right online, in case you go on soon - and fixed the link to my blog, everything else worked well for me. I had one " out of place in my link, that's why it didn't work. Guess I had not tried that one - sorry it gave you trouble.

Now you should be able to make a Favorite Link for your Blog, than then use all the links in your blog to go to all the family ones. I though this might me easier for mom. There are actually two links to pictures you can use in your sidebar - the RSS Photo Feed for each of us (Mike, me, Anne) and then the Flickr link. The RSS should show you the newest pictures added each time you check, it does have options in the sidebar for time periods to check.

Also, if you notice the little pencil at the end of each blog entry - if you click on it it will take you right to the page where you can correct any error you made in the blog, or if you click on CREATE, up in the Posting Menu, you can make a post. I may or may not ask you to sign in.

Trying E Mail Blog Entry - 6/21/05 8:30 PM

Have really enjoyed all the pictures and Blog entries today. Surprise
Grandpa and Mitch too and great to see Mommy and Mitch too. Also great
phone visit with JO and Zack this AM - their house is going up!We are
doing OK here. First day of Summer was what you would expect -HOT in
middle 90's. Fortunately humidity not too high. We did not do much
outside in yard today - I did water our tomato plants again tonight -
they need it often as many are just in pots. Lots of green tomatoes but
nothing to pick yet. Watered lawn this AM early - things pretty dry. Made
a trip to Card store, CVS and Sams Club this morning and made it back
before 11.

Sure hope this entry gets to Blog alright. It seems to be a chore to get
one in direct. Did look at Profile entry Jo but did not put much. Jo your
Link did not work said no Entry for URL? Surprised Profile data can only
be entered for one - no such thing as couple profile. Will get it done
sometime.

Guess all you experienced Bloggers will know our Blog address is same as
one this E-Mail sent to without .Family in middle before@. Guess this
will be good way to keep you filled in on our adventures down here in
Lufkin Homeplace. Most times not too much going on here.

Mom got into mood to have our family room re-carpeted. Know it needs it
but it is only 24 years old! Guess change in color and pattern would be a
pleasant change.

Sure great to know Baby Mitch is doing so well and thriving! Wish we
could see her too. Guess I had better quit for now.
